Dear The Office,

I couldn't love you more if I tried. That was quite possibly my favorite episode.

You rock.

Love,
Me

I watched "Turn Left" and am watching "Stolen Earth" and here's just one question...

why is there not a show about Rose? She is AWESOME. I loved her so much before and now she's even cooler! I'm remembering why I don't really bother watching unless she's in it... because I need my Rose fix. The Doctor I can live without.

Hee.

And I love Rose and Donna together. They're all sorts of funny, especially with Rose being enigmatic and Donna figuring her out. Just lovely.

Have i mentioned that I've becomed addicted to True Blood? I mean, I watched last season and this season, but the past few eps made me love it all the more, and this season has been so much better... good enough to make me read the books which aren't particularly good, in my opinion, but fun.

But tonight's ep...

Spoilers for tonight's ep, and the book series... )
I should totally be packing. Sigh.

So I am alive... but I've been busy with the procrastinating from moving, and thereby getting sucked into Merlin (yes, ANOTHER show) and rewatching VMars (for which I totally blame my best friend who thought we should watch it  again. Gah.) So yes, watching tv while I debate what to pack clearly makes me a very busy girl. Hee.

But y'know what's lovely about fandom? Is how they all intersect at the most unexpected of intervals. For example, an author I used to read a lot in an entirely different fandom now writes awesome Merlin fic... which, btw, isn't by any means the best written show (or all that well written in terms of plots OR special effects which seriously are rather stupid, like worse than Doctor Who, because whenever they fight a monster, it does NOT look like they ever hit it with the damn sword) but is fun, because of the characters and their chemistry with one another.

Meanwhile, I would really like it if my DVR would stop erasing things on its own. It has plenty of space -- 55 hours! -- yet keeps erasing things that are even protected. I know that means i should suck it up and call and get it fixed and/or replaced, but... I have stuff saved on there. Sigh.

Leverage and In Plain Sight thoughts... )

So me not posting as much? Apparently a lie. But part of the family arrived today, and more are to come so this amount of time while the babies are sleeping lets me watch tv in piece.

I finally watched Army of Ghosts and Doomsday! Army of Ghosts was enjoyable, and I was surprised at how much I liked it... that said, I was also REALLY surprised that Doomsday did not make me bawl like a little baby (a la "Becoming Part II" or "The Body" or "Damn it, Joss Whedon, here's my heart and trample it on the floor, why don't you?" -- the only other shows I can think of that made me cry or WANT to cry were Everwood (seriously, damn you Berlanti); INTSOTG parts 1 and 2 of The West Wing... like Toby's reaction to finding Josh and then Donna's reaction and then ACK. There I go.).

Anyways, Doomsday mainly made me mad. Ranting about male characters who make choices for the women characters and we're expected to swoon? Please. )

Last night I was reading someone's reaction to a Ten/Martha fic they had read which basically discounted Rose's existence and portrayed her as a needy and poor companion who gave up all too easily at the first sign of trouble... which, no. She's just not like that. Is she too attached to the Doctor? Probably, same as he is to her. But an inept companion? No. Rose Tyler never gives up and kicks ass.

I'm all for shipping, and I'm fine with people shipping whatever they want -- discontented with some fanfic out there... )

Seriously... whenever he comes on screen, I pull up a pillow and hide behind it. Between his comments about the show (and female characters!) and his own presence on the Doctor Who Confidential eps that i've been watching -- I just don't like him. At all.

Okay, so I give in... "The Impossible Planet" made me gleeful at the Rose/Ten cuteness, particularly the mortgage talk, the kissing of the helmet, and Ten wanting to rush up when he hears that Rose is in trouble. Plus, his sincere regret at getting her stuck there, coupled with her sheer awesomeness at adapting to the situation and buoying his spirits... how can he NOT love her? Rose Tyler is fantastic. There's no way around it.

Btw, Billie Piper and David Tennant's real life friendship? Also great. It reminds me of Meloni and Mariska... just the joy they get out of being around one another. Sadly, Billie and David don't get the ten years together that CM and MH did... they need to work together in the future!

So with my experiences in the SG-1 and BSG fandom, I thought I had read every sci-fi related fanfic cliche... but the whole time travel thing? Throws another whammy into the works. Read more... )

I just watched "The Girl in the Fireplace"... and it was weird.

Really. I didn't dislike it, or like it. It was just weird and felt... off. Reinette was cool, and Rose was compassionate as always (what's up with the Rose being portrayed as jealous in fic? She and Reinette were the good parts of this ep! I love that she was concerned about how Reinette was taking the whole thing), but the Doctor again did not do it for me. I didn't get the whole him being in love with her thing -- it just didn't seem to fit, and his always running off without telling his companions irritated me, only to be eclipsed by his asking a figure from history to join him on his travels... if an ordinary person like Pete can make that much of a difference, what about someone who's notable?

And Poor Mickey! What an awkward first trip out, being abandoned by the designated driver. Please don't compare a horse to Mickey, Doctor, especially when YOU were the one to let him come along. Nine didn't leave Rose behind when she was trapped with the shields breaking, so don't leave Mickey (and Rose) either.

And again, I'd like to know why the droids a) chose Reinette (and why a ship named after a French mistress in the 51st century?) and b) thought Rose was compatible.

I want to like Ten as much as I love Nine. But it's not happening yet!

But funniest part? "She always did work too hard." She was a courtesan. A mistress. So that line, coming from her lover? Makes me giggle terribly. Hee.

"In Plain Sight" still continues to be awesome, and Mary and Marshall's partnership fills me with glee. Even better? Apparently each West Wing cast member is slowly coming to the show... first Will Bailey (Joshua Malina) and now Toby (Richard Schiff)! Please send along Bradley Whitford, Janel Maloney, and Allison Janney anytime soon, mm'kay?

Dear Ron Moore:

For future endeavors, for a good idea of what a lovely (and satisfying) series finale is, along with a good director cameo, see "Scrubs,"  m'kay?

Love,

(p.s. -- it helps if you don't kill off the awesome female leads and leave the whiny, crying men behind to rebuild civilization.)

Is it possible to have hot flashes when you're in your twenties? I have no idea if these count as such, but sometimes I get so freakin' hot and then they go away and I'm all cold. Not cool, body temp.

If anyone out there has watched the latest ep of "In Plain Sight," please tell me it's okay to watch because I know Michael Angeli wrote it..

I thought once BSG was over, I'd never have to watch Angeli's writing again. *pouts*

Also, what do they put in Oreos to make them so freakin' addictive? Yum. Wait, maybe I don't want to know...

Btw, I'm almost finished with Season two of "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and Billie Piper is an AMAZING actress. Seriously, she's just fantastic, and so good as Hannah/Belle. And worlds away from Rose. Or Fanny Price, for that matter (which, though I saw her in Mansfield Park, I won't comment on because honestly, Fanny drives me nuts regardless).

It's cold and rainy today... therefore a perfect day to take the dog to the vet, right? Not so much. But he was a trooper, poor shaking baby that he is, and got all his shots and a clean bill of health. I love the vets office, actually, because they're all really nice in this fantastic genuine way, and it's so good to be able to trust your vet, especially when your dog is old as mine (he's a 13 year old black lab). Of course, now he's nestled on his blankets, and refusing to go for a walk, or even get his dinner. Hee. It's possible he's afraid of going back.

As for me, I've been exploring Doctor Who fandom... haven't started Season 2 yet (waiting on Netflix!), but there's SO much fic and stuff, it's overwhelming. Truly a prolific fandom. But I have a couple of questions, if any of my enlightened flist can answer for me...

Is it a fanon thing that Jack ever called Rose "Rosie"? And that he taught her some self-defense moves? Because that seems prevalent in fics, but I didn't notice it in season 1.

Also, there's a lot of anti-Martha bashers which I understand because character-bashing is one of the great tenents of fandom, sadly... but I haven't seen any Martha bashing. In fact, I see whole lots of Rose-bashing, calling her a Mary-Sue (Wtf?) and such, and it's weird. Not that I want to see Martha bashing, but I'm just wondering why there's all this companion bashing? It's kind of irritating because so much of the glee seems to be reserved for the Doctor, and that makes me sad. Because I actually watch for Rose, and her interactions with the Doctor. I find them together much more interesting than the Doctor alone.

And I'm sad that there aren't more repercussions about Rose and the Bad Wolf thing. Because honestly, there SHOULD be.
